WHY VOLUNTEER?
Employability
In the current economic climate, many students are looking to volunteering as a way to develop their skill-set and make themselves more attractive to future employers. Stage Spiders a student–led volunteering group at the university which can help increase your employability by:

-
developing key skills which are highly regarding by employers.
-
Such as: leadership, teamwork, communication, organisation, enterprise, problem-solving, and personal reflection.
-

-

-
These experiences can be vital for students aiming to develop a career as a teacher, social worker, community worker, teaching assistant or charity worker.

-
When written on your CV, it demonstrates responsibility in a leadership position as well as provide evidence of the key skills mentioned above.
-
Community
Not only does Stage Spiders enrich students' employability and personal skills, but it also offers students the opportunity to give back to society and the wider community. Through various fundraisers and community projects, members are able to help develop different communities and create relationships with people outside of the University. In the past, we've worked with multiple communities including:

-
Schools
-
Nurseries
-
Libraries
-
Youth Centres
-
Care Homes
Personal Development
As well as providing experience and skills which aid employability development, volunteering with Stage Spiders is also an enriching experience:

-
It is a way of giving back to the local community and helps students feel like they are doing something productive and important with their time at university (compared with 'just' joining a sports club or society).
-
Stage Spiders is very inclusive and many members have forged friendships through volunteering with us which can last long after the end of university.
-
Working in a team environment such as ours can help increase self-confidence. Many first-year members start the year incredibly shy, but by the end of the third term they are much more confident and several such members run for committee positions because of this increased self-confidence.
-
And most importantly, Stage Spiders is fun! Working with children is always exciting and different every week, and our weekly meetings often involve fun games and activities!
Socialisation
On a weekly basis, Stage Spiders holds different socials, events, and meet-ups which in the past have included:

-
Members Meetings where we discuss potential fundraising and project ideas.

-
Pub Crawls where we travel across campus or the city to different pubs and venues drinking (if you want) and socializing.

-
Festive activities such as arts and crafts for Christmas; fancy dress for Halloween and a campus Easter Egg hunt.

-
Movie and Pizza Night.

-
Games Night including Twister, Pictionary, Charades, and various Drama games.
